Paul is originally from DeSoto, TX. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1986 and received a commission in the US Army from UTA ROTC in 1989. He received a BBA in Business Management from UTA in 1993. Paul served in various command, staff, & instructor positions throughout his Army Reserve career including a one-year deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2018 after 32 years of service.

Paul joined the financial services industry in 1996 as a Life Insurance Agent with John Hancock in the Ft Worth office. It is at John Hancock where Paul met Gus Bates. Paul formally joined Gus in 2006 and became partner of Gus Bates Financial Services in 2019.

Paul is a Financial Advisor and received the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation in 2003. Today Paul helps clients plan and protect their families and businesses against financial hardship should they die and ensures their investments meet their financial and retirement goals.

Paul is married to Ann who is a retired Tarrant County Social Worker. They reside in Mansfield and have two grown children; son Brandon, married to Olivia, living in Haslet and daughter Geneva living in Chandler, AZ. When not working, Paul enjoys playing golf and rooting for the local college and pro sports teams.
